About This Place

This is an experiment and attempt to try my hand at writing/investigating and furthering my knowledge and enjoyment of my favorite thing: Pro Wrestling. Reviews, mostly, of matches, events and angles from the past - things I missed, things I ignored and things I want to subject myself to again. An attempt is being made to review things more on a scale of enjoyment, rather than a scale of historical importance or lack thereof. Star ratings will usually be given, but don't mean a whole lot - as they rank actual match/work quality, rather than sole enjoyment. Requests are taken.

Introducing First, Standing to My Left...

CUT THE MUSIC.

The message at the top does a good enough job of explaining what I'm trying to do here, but here are the details:

I'm doing this for fun. For entertainment. For enjoyment. If people come here and read this and spread wrestling love around, awesome. I've been influenced by a lot of internet wrestling nerds over the last few years, but this is my opportunity to blend information I've gotten from blogs, podcasts and publications with my own bizarre curiosity. I plan on looking at things that are considered "Classic" that I've never seen or feel the desire to re-evaluate, but I will also likely use this blog as a place to convince myself and others that Sid Vicious was fucking awesome.

I'm not planning on reviewing or talking about current wrestling. You can get that from other places, I can give that in other places. I keep track of every match I watch every year and rate ones better than 3.75/5 and have that as an Excel sheet. Want it? Ask. Here I'm going through old stuff. It's mostly nostalgia and wonder. At least a year old, hopefully older. I'm going to have some  "Programs" or "Themes" or "Gimmicks" to help me focus my watching and review regime - this could be looking at a specific time/promotion, a certain angle, a in-depth look at a particular wrestler, profiling annual events, looking into popular published lists, etc. I'll probably throw some reviews up of particular shows that don't fit into easy categories too.

Oh, and I naturally lean towards wrestling in the United States, but will delve into Puroresu, Lucha, British, etc - just unlikely as often.

Here are the 3 big projects I plan on starting with; other things will show up and projects could be added, but here are some things you can (or can dread) looking forward to:

  • A look at the first 34 years of the Wrestling Observer Pro Wrestling Match Of The Year (and runner-ups).
  • An attempt to review every match/segment posted on new streaming service NWA Classics (currently consisting of Paul Boesch's NWA Houston library).
  • "The Complete Mark Henry" - Trying to watch EVERY Mark Henry segment on WWF/WWE television. Yikes.
There will be more a look at a few wrestlers important Title Match/Wins, reviews of DVDs and their matches I haven't watched yet and random events too.

I'm playing catch up with current, modern stuff right now - but I hope to start soon.
